Florence Fligg, 55, passed away on September 8, 2020 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. A visitation will be held Monday, September 14, 2020 from noon to 1:00 PM at McLaren’s Funeral Home with services at 1 PM. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery following the service.

Florence was born on January 30, 1965 to Valentino and Felicidad Ongchua in Cotabato City, Philippines. She was the seventh child from the eldest. Florence graduated from Cotabato City’s Notre Dame University with a degree in psychology. She briefly worked as a professor in the same field. After teaching, she moved to Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines to join her mother and other siblings. She worked with FarEast Bank in the Cagayan de Oro City branch for a number of years, and over time, received the Quality Service Award for her exemplary customer service.

She developed many friends from customers at U.S. Bank here in the U.S. Some would stand back and wait until she was free, rather than go to another teller window. One, a doctor, gave advice to her. Another, a retired businessman, who shared the same birthday, and his wife always took her to lunch to celebrate their birthdays. Some even came to her son, Jordan’s, graduation party.

Florence is survived by her husband, Steve Fligg; son, Jordan Fligg; daughter, Justine O. (Glenn) Camugao; granddaughter, Gabby; mother, Felicidad; siblings, George (Suzette) Ongchua, Doris (Len) Hoyle, Grace Susan Ongchua, Clyde Ongchua, Arlene (Ray) Barnedo, Alana (Victor) San Pedro, Cedric (Yasmin) Ongchua; nieces and nephews, Michael George, Angelo Philip, Sharleen Eloise, Zoe Erika, Beren Jonas, Lendl Blue, and Christian John.

Florence is preceded in death by her father, Valentino.

Memorials for Florence can be directed to Jordan’s college fund.

Frequently, we were neighbor greeting neighbor from a far. Florence delivered sun shine into my day with her friendly greeting, wave and bright smile.
May her family and friends recall many fond memories.
May we view her bright light in the night sky and know she is at peace.
