Floyd W. Wilson, 95, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Entombment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Floyd was born October 29, 1921 in Cedar, IA. He moved to Des Moines when he was three years old and graduated from Des Moines East High School. At 20, Floyd enlisted in the Air Corp. While serving 3 ½ years he flew or co-piloted B24’s, was a member of the 311 Recon Wing, 16 Photographic Squadron, and was discharged at Lowry Field in Denver, CO. He entered college and after earning his degree he went to work at Farm Bureau Insurance as a claims adjuster. Floyd retired in 1986 as a Fleet Vice President of FBL Leasing Service. In 1976-1977 he was listed in the Marquis Living-Who’s Who of the Midwest and in 1977-1978 was awarded Personality of the West and Midwest. In 1977 he helped organize the Midwest Chapter of National Association of Fleet Administrators, serving as president for two years, and then served at the national level as trustee for three years. Floyd enjoyed and played football, basketball, softball and bowling. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 654, Scottish Rite, Za Ga Zig Shrine, the American Legion, 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church and Baulder Sunday School class and served on many committees at the church.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Beverly R. Wilson; mother, Elva B. Funck; and sister, Flora M. Furnoy. He is survived by his niece, Elva Lou Timmons of Des Moines; and many great nieces and nephews.
