Ollie “Frances” Seago passed away on August 14, 2024 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Frances was born February 24, 1929 in Augusta, Georgia to Clyde and Anna Mae Dunaway. She had been married to her husband, John M. Seago, for 74 years when he passed away in 2023.
Frances graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Elementary Education. After teaching two years in the Atlanta, Georgia school system, she became a full-time stay-at-home Mom and raised four children. In 1975, she resumed teaching at Plymouth Nursery School in Des Moines. She enjoyed teaching young children for 23 years until her retirement in 1998.
Frances enjoyed cooking, reading, visiting family in Georgia, and watching her television soap operas. She and her husband, John, especially liked to attend the activities of their grandchildren. They were known to their grandchildren and great grandchildren as Grandma and Papa.
Frances is survived by two children, Susan Burney of Des Moines and Nancy (Terry) Ridout of Marshalltown, IA; and daughters-in-law, Marilyn Seago of Mingo, IA and Mary Seago of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in April 2023; sons, Clyde in December 2022 and Mike in March 2024.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon on Friday, August 23, 2024 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines followed by a graveside service at Noon at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines.
