Frantisek “Frank" Kocurek was born on October 4th 1968 in Czechoslovakia and passed on August 19th, 2020 in Des Moines.
Frank would say frequently when someone would ask, "Where are you from?", and he would always start the conversation with "Well I was born in Czechoslovakia." He was very proud of his heritage, where he was from, and the family that he loved so much.
Frank began his journey in the United States in 1998; he had a dream and fulfilled it. He loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited several countries and almost every state in the United States. It was nothing for Frank to get in the car on a Sunday morning for coffee and not return home for hours as he just loved to drive. He was an avid skier and before settling in Iowa, he lived in Colorado where he worked as a ski instructor at the Breckenridge Mountain Ski Resort.
In the early spring of 2007 Frank met the love of his life, Terri, and they were married that fall. Since the Inception of their relationship they were inseparable and they shared over 13 years together. Frank became an instant father and it was a role he did not take lightly. He embraced it wholeheartedly and with complete determination to love and care for his step children he raised the youngest from a child to a young man.
Frank was a hard-working man and had been employed at Central Asphalt and Paving for over the last 20 years. He took his job very serious and it was something he enjoyed. He had a lot of love for his Central Asphalt family. He enjoyed being a part of the Sleepy Hollow family, as a ski instructor, teaching hundreds how to ski, running the chair lift operator and was a Ren Faire drink slinger.
Frank loved his motorcycle and lived to ride on Sunday Fundays. He cherished his riding friends and loved to take short trips with the gang. He enjoyed the Des Moines River and Birldland Marina for many years, jet skiing, boating and fishing; in which he just started to do recently.
Frank is survived by the love of his life, Terri Lynn Kocurek; his three stepchildren, Jake Ballard, Jerica Ballard and Alexander Weber; mother, Vlasta; brother, Vlastimil; sister, Helena, their spouses and several nieces and nephews and a great niece, Stella; and numerous other family members, as well as hundreds of friends.
Frank was an amazing man with a gentle soul and was loved by so many it’s impossible to count. He will be forever etched into our hearts as the remaining broken pieces try to heal and continue his legacy.
We love you Frankie, you will never leave our hearts. "Just One More".
