A visitation will be held at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary, located at 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265, on February 10, 2026, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. A prayer service will follow at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on the same day. The burial ceremony is scheduled for February 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Born on July 15, 1970, in Fuzhou, China. Gary became a U.S citizen in his early childhood. He grew up in Iowa and graduated from Lincoln High School. He helped with the family restaurant by Drake University before a career shift with Schneider National and later with the United States Postal Service (USPS), where he was known for his reliability and dedication.
Gary lived a well-rounded life, cheering on his favorite sports teams, traveling, and spending time with loved ones. His sense of humor and warm personality made him a beloved presence among those who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Hiu Fan, and his children Keedy, Irene Vanderlinden, Tyler, and Logan Cheung; his parents, Kwan Yi and Tong Kam Lai Cheung; his siblings, James Cheung and Jane Cheung; and his niece, Xiomara Cheung.
Gary's funeral held at McLaren's Resthaven and burial at Jordan Cemetery, in West Des Moines where he called home for many years.
Gary will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
