On July 19, 1935, Gary was born in Des Moines to Duward and Margaret (Tramp) Staples. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended both Iowa State University and Drake University.
He retired as CEO of Polk County Federal Savings & Loan after 35 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and skeet shooting. He served as past chairman of Iowa Ducks Unlimited.
Surviving Gary are his wife Dee of 63 years, daughter Dr. Kimberly Staples (Craig Paulson) of Grinnell, son Bret Staples (Jill) of Saline, MI, grandsons Noah Brennan, Avery Brennan, Adam Brennan, Hunter Staples, Spencer Staples, and his sister Diane Roupe of West Des Moines.
Per Gary’s request, no funeral service will be held and burial will be private at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
