

Gary Wayne Wagner, 88, passed away June 15, 2026. Per Gary’s wishes a private service was held at McLaren's Chapel. Full military honors will be performed at the Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA with placement in the the columbarium wall. The date and time will be provided as soon as they are available.
Gary was born in Martensdale, IA. November 1, 1937 to Orville “Bill” and Vada E. (Breech) Wagner and was raised in the Indianola area and graduated from Indianola High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Adak, Alaska, Okinawa and Japan. Gary was in the Sea Bees and was very proud of his 2 years, 10 months and 26 days of service. After his honorable discharge, he worked for United Buckingham Freight as a mechanic for six years before becoming an over-the-road truck driver for Super Value Stores, Inc and continued in that position for 31 years, retiring in 2001. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local # 147. After retirement he was an organizer and ring man for Pirtle Auction in Hartford, Iowa.
Gary was married to Margaret Christensen and they had three children, Douglas, David and Dana. He then married Michael Roberts and gained four step children, Joseph, Nancy, Matthew, and Andrew. During the last 10 years, he maintained a close relationship with Andrew and they enjoyed many activities together. Andy joined his mother as a caretaker after Gary had a devastating fall in March, 2025. He was by his side until his passing.
