Grace Hendershott

Grace Hendershott passed away at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale, Iowa, on October 7, 2010. She was born in Dodge Center, Minnesota, the eldest daughter of David Knudson and Eunice Foster Knudson. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at McLaren’s Chapel with interment at Resthaven Cemetery.

Grace was preceded in death by her first husband Samuel Mechling and her husband of 54 years Gordon Hendershott, her grandson David Burt, brother Richard Knudson, sister Donnaclaire Martig and her parents.

She is survived by her son Larry Hendershott and wife Geri of Remer, Minnesota; her daughter Peggy Ash of Norwalk, Iowa; her grandchildren Kevin Ash, Michelle Thompson, Todd Hendershott, Kristi Miller, Lisa Porterfield, Corey Hendershott, Larry Burt, and Elizabeth Roberts; her twelve great-grandchildren Jared Roberts, Katherine Roberts, Casey Ash, Sean Miller, Joel Miller, Brandon Ash, Allyson Ash, Madison Masters, Jacob Porterfield, John Porterfield, Monte Hendershott, and Cole Hendershott; her brother Kenneth Knudson and wife Dorothy and brother George Knudson and wife Betty of Dodge Center, Minnesota; also her sister-in-law Beverly Hendershott Whiton of Jefferson, Iowa.

Grace attended First Christian Church and volunteered in the church library. She also volunteered at Hospice of Central Iowa for ten years. She worked at Meredith Corporation for 35 years.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2010, at McLaren’s Chapel, 801 - 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa. Memorials may be made in Grace’s honor to Hospice of Central Iowa, SouthernCare, or Bickford Cottage.
