Grant Joe Harter, Sr., 99, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Aurora House Hospice in Weslaco, Texas. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at McLaren's Chapel.
Grant was born in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Joseph and Rose (Schoonover) Harter. He was a longtime electrician as a member of I.B.E.W. Local #288, was a member of South Gate Masonic Lodge #657, and attended Eastside Church of the Nazarene for many years. He loved traveling, woodworking, fishing, boating, and working at his trade.
He is survived by his son, Grant J. (Judith) Harter, Jr. of Weslaco, Texas; sister, Rosemary Eaton of Norwalk, Iowa; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Grant was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Harter; his parents; sister, Dorothy Griffeon; daughter, Judith A. Graham; grandson, Gary Lee Graham; and daughter-in-law, Marna (Joann) Harter.
Grant will be missed very much by his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be given to Aurora House Hospice of Weslaco, Texas.
