Gregg Bollinger, 50, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at McLarens Chapel with entombment in Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Gregg was born on September 24, 1965 in Algona, Iowa to Lloyd Jay and Nancy (Hudson) Bollinger. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at South Dakota State University before moving to Des Moines in the late 80’s where he met his future wife, Sheila Kaye Hanig. The two were married in Wesley, Iowa on May 22, 1993. Gregg and Sheila were blessed with two wonderful boys, Conner Jay and Zachary William. The family of four lived together in Valley Junction. Gregg loved his boys and was incredibly active in their lives. He loved to volunteer for Conner and Zach’s various extracurricular activities, including Boy Scouts, coaching and refereeing soccer games, and helping out at Hillside Elementary. Gregg’s proudest moments included watching his boys play sports and watching them both graduate from WDM Valley High School. Gregg worked at Onthank for 13 years. He was most recently employed with YRC Freight in West Des Moines.
Gregg loved 80’s music, especially Def Leppard! He enjoyed working in the yard, looking at cars, and watching Star Trek and Star Wars. Gregg always loved to spend time with his friends and listen to music. He loved Carol Burnett! Gregg was an amazing builder and all around handyman. He even built Sheila an outdoor armoire for the TV on the famous Bollinger deck.
Those left to remember Gregg are his wife of 23 years, Sheila; sons, Conner and Zachary; one granddaughter, Adaline; brother, Kirk (Denice) Bollinger; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Karen Hanig; brothers-in-law, Dan and Doug Hanig; sisters-in-law, Patti (Dale) Kiley and Julie (Mark) Fischels; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles; and countless friends. Gregg was preceded in death by his parents and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Gregg’s family.
