

Betty was born January 24, 1925 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Everard L. and Metta (Powell) Bish, the youngest of 7 children. She was 17 years old when she graduated from Bluffton High School, Bluffton, Ohio in 1942. On August 12, 1950 she married Richard C. Baker who preceded her in death on April 15, 2013.
As a young woman, Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Dick and Betty moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1961, where she worked for Migala Carpet, DeHaan Heating and Cooling and retired from the Finance Department for the City of Kalamazoo. After retiring to Surprise, AZ with her husband, Dick, Betty formed her own business; “Betty’s Travels”, where she coordinated bus tours with turn arounds to Laughlin, NV and served as a local tour guide.
She enjoyed square dancing, card games, walking, bicycling, golfing, and watching the Phoenix Suns Basketball team. She enjoyed traveling either with their RV or through cruises visiting 45 of the 50 States of America and more than 30 countries in the world.
Betty's survivors include her two children, Mark (Leslie) Baker of Flower Mound, TX and Cynthea Dee (David) Zielke of Norwalk, IA. Also, her many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, William, Gene, Eddie, Marlowe and her 2 sisters; Guyneth and Nina.
She will be buried alongside her husband at Sunland Memorial, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. Local arrangements are provided by McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th St. West Des Moines, IA 50265
The family has chosen to celebrate her life privately, therefore no memorial services will be held.
