Harold L. Harvey passed away peacefully at home at Scottish Rite Park on January 20, 2019. Harold was born on October 26, 1931, in Creston, Iowa. Born to Margaret and Howard, he was the oldest of 4 children, Ada Bachman (Laverne) of Clarkston, WA, Donald Harvey (Pat) of Pleasant Hill, IA, Keith Harvey (Nancy) of Grinnell, IA. Harold grew up in south central Iowa and graduated from Garden City High School in South Dakota. He was a Sargent in the Marines and did a tour of duty in the Korean War. Harold was married to the love of his life, Kathryn, for 65 years. Harold was a carpenter and owned his own contracting business for 30 years. He also owned and took care of 24 apartment units. Harold loved to fly airplanes and as was President of the Plaza Flying Club. He was always looking for an adventure and known for his impromptu outdoor activities and many family camping vacations. In his later years, he became a bountiful gardener where his tomatoes were sought after by family and friends. His grandchildren know him as one of the “best Santa Clauses” ever!
Harold will be missed by his wife Kathryn (Schoonover of Guthrie Center, IA); children Craig (Lisa) of Rosemount, MN, Tom of Lakewood Ranch, FL, David (Ellen) of Clive, IA, and Julie Harvey of Des Moines, IA and eight grandchildren, Laura Friend (Joe) of Savage MN, Emily Tomes (Joe) of Lakeville, MN, Taryn Chapman (Jon) of Parrish, FL, Tyler Harvey (Amy) of Estero, FL, Ross Harvey (Emily) of Sunnyvale, CA, Allison Smith (Colton) of Whicker Park, IL, Rob Harvey of Clive, IA, and Jake Harvey of Tampa, FL. He had eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Jeffery Allen Harvey.
