Scotty Reid, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston with his family present. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Scotty was born on March 4, 1928 in Des Moines, IA to Andrew and Jane (Sinclair) Reid. He graduated from Tech High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II and the Korean War. He married Betty G. Morgan on June 18, 1950 in Des Moines and together they had four children: Donna, Diane, Deborah and David. He started his career with Northwestern Bell and retired in 1986 from Qwest after 36 years.
Scotty enjoyed golfing, traveling locally and in Europe, especially Scotland, and was a loyal Hawkeye fan. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the Urbandale American Legion and Lions Club, and the Masons. After retiring from Qwest he went to work at the Wakonda and Glen Oaks Golf Clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 18 years; four children, Donna (Dennis) Pearson, Diane (Randy) Helgath, Deborah (Craig) Cochran and David (Sue) Reid; two step-daughters, Sandra Collins and Debra (Donnie) Sonner; 11 grandchildren, Dana, Denise, Elizabeth, Sarah, Matthew, Sheena, Emily, Ian, Rebecca, Cory and Jared; and 16 great-grandchildren, Colin, Jackson, Blade, Tarek, Ethan, Bergen, Judah, Bryce, Lily Ann, Cooper, Reid, Brayton, Emma, Ella, Brynlee and Chayton. Scotty was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Betty.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice.
