Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and brother, Inbo Jung, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21st, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 88 years old.

Born in Pyongyang, Korea, on July 29, 1937, Inbo lived a life marked by resilience, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. After marrying Won Hee in Korea on March 21st, 1965 he completed his required military service and thereafter sought new opportunities in a world still recovering from war. He first moved to Germany, where he briefly worked, before moving to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1967, hoping to build a better life in America.

He found his footing first by delivering for Pepsi Bottling, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Iowa’s first Asian grocery store — Jung's Oriental Food Store — at East 9th & University. For many Korean and Asian immigrants arriving in the Midwest in the 1970s, his store was more than a business; it was a lifeline to home, a community hub, and a place where cultures connected.

After 13 years, Inbo transitioned to a new venture, opening Ingersoll Liquor and Beverage Company in 1987. To those who knew him, work was his hobby. But beyond his entrepreneurial drive, Inbo was a deeply faithful man. He was a founding member and longtime elder at the Korean United Methodist Church, where he and his wife Won Hee found spiritual family and community for over five decades.

Inbo is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Won Hee Jung, sons Ben Jung and Tony Jung (Min), and grandchildren Emily, Jenna, and Joseph Jung. He is also survived by his younger sisters In Duck Hong and In Ae Moon.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dong Kyu Jung and Tae Soon Lee, and his siblings Suki Wells, In Hwa Jung, and In Young Jung.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:30 AM, at the Korean United Methodist Church, 1009 Guthrie Ave, Des Moines, IA 50316.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Korean United Methodist Church, a spiritual home that meant so much to Inbo throughout his life.

우리 아버지, 정인보 님께서 2025년 9월 21일 일요일, 아이오와주 데스모인 자택에서 평안히 하나님의 부르심을 받으셨습니다. 향년 88세이십니다.

1937년 7월 29일, 평양에서 태어나신 정인보 님은 강인함과 근면함, 그리고 가족과 공동체에 대한 깊은 책임감으로 삶을 살아오셨습니다. 한국에서 군복무를 마치신 후, 여전히 전쟁의 상흔이 남아 있던 고국에서의 미래에 한계를 느끼시고 더 나은 삶을 찾아 독일로 일자리를 찾아 떠나셨습니다. 이후 독일에서의 짧은 생활을 마치고, 먼저 미국으로 1967년 아이오와주 데스모인에 정착하셨습니다.

미국에 도착한 후, 펩시 보틀링(Pepsi Bottling) 회사에서 배달 일을 시작하셨고, 이후 데스모인 동부, 아이오와 주청사 인근에 거주하시면서 아내 원희 정 여사와 함께 첫 사업을 시작하셨습니다. 그것이 바로 아이오와주 최초의 아시안 식료품점인 **정의 오리엔탈 푸드 스토어(Jung’s Oriental Food Store)**입니다.

이 가게는 단순한 식료품점이 아니라, 1970년대 중서부 지역으로 이주한 많은 아시아계 이민자들에게 고향의 맛과 향수를 제공하는 공간이었으며, 지역 주민들도 접하기 어려운 다양한 식재료를 찾기 위해 이곳을 찾았습니다. 인보 정 님의 가게는 지역 사회의 문화적 연결 고리이자 만남의 장소였습니다.

13년간 식료품점을 운영하신 후, 1987년 3월 데스모인 인거솔 애비뉴 35번가에 **인거솔 주류 및 음료 회사(Ingersoll Liquor and Beverage Company)를 새롭게 창업하셨습니다. 정인보 님에게 일은 단순한 생계 수단이 아닌, 삶의 열정이자 즐거움이었습니다.

사업 외에도 정인보 님은 깊은 신앙을 가지신 분으로, 한국연합감리교회의 창립 멤버이자 장로로 섬기셨습니다. 1972년 교회 창립부터 지금까지 신앙 공동체 안에서 헌신적으로 봉사해 오셨습니다.

고인은 사랑하는 아내 최원희, 아들 벤 정, 토니 정(배우자 민 정), 손주 에밀리, 제나, 조셉 정을 비롯하여, 여동생 인덕 홍, 인애 문 님이 유족으로 계십니다.

또한 부모님 정동규 님과 이태순 여사, 그리고 형제자매이신 숙희 웰스, 정인화, 정인영 님께서는 먼저 하나님의 품에 안기셨습니다.

고인의 삶을 기념하는 예배는

2025년 9월 27일 토요일 오전 11시 30분,

한국연합감리교회 (1009 Guthrie Ave, Des Moines, IA 50316)에서 거행됩니다.
