James D. “Dan” Areges passed away on March 10, 2015 at Kavanagh House Hospice. He was born in 1931 to Pete and Margaret Ellen (Miller) Areges. Dan lived in West Des Moines most of his life. A graduate from Valley High School, Dan served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his service, Dan attended Iowa State College and retired from the engineering department of Armstrong Tire 1993.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, George. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann; sons, James (Jodene) and Steven (Bobbie) Areges of West Des Moines; one grandson Michael James; and two step-grandchildren, Dana Van Sambeek and Bailey Brady.
A private family celebration of life was held at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. Graveside services immediately followed at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
