James Hankins, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 17, 2016. A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, Iowa with military honors following at 4 p.m.
Jim was born in Tucson, Arizona to Dale and Ethel Hankins. He graduated from Valley High School in 1962. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Jim lived in Omaha, Nebraska and Jefferson City, Missouri but lived in the West Des Moines area most of his life. He was an electrical engineer with Westinghouse for most of his career.
Jim loved golfing, woodworking, baking cookies, and hanging out with his family, especially his grandkids.
He is survived by his brother, Rich (Tara) Hankins of Des Moines; sister, Cathy (Rod) Wilson of Grimes; four daughters, Debbie (Paul) Scheppers of Missouri, Toni Baxter and Kelly Irvin both of Nebraska, and Amy Fischer of Missouri; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
