Jim was born in Carroll, Iowa, to Francis and Maxine (Abbey) Mullen. He was one of six siblings and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School, where he was among a class of only five students. He briefly attended St. Ambrose College before serving two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. One of his proudest achievements was coaching a baseball team in his free time while stationed overseas.
Jim was passionate about sports, particularly baseball and basketball. He took immense pride in supporting his daughter’s athletic endeavors, often serving as an announcer at her games. Later in life, he cherished watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. Above all, Jim was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his loved ones, including the family pets that brought him joy over the years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie; his son, Sean; his daughter, Lynette (Dan) Foster; and his two cherished grandchildren, Hannah and Brayden Foster. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ed, Charlemagne, Sherry, John, and Maryann.
