Janet E. Feiden, 84, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. A visitation will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Janet was born March 26, 1933 to Russell and Margaret (Kehne) Thoman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids in 1951. Janet was very active during these years. She was President of the Girl’s Athletic Association, Treasurer of the Year Book, and Drum Major of the Marching Band. She was a member of both the Student Council and Mozart Club, sang in A cappella Choir, played String Bass and was selected to play in the All-City Concert. For the Eastern Iowa Band Festival, Janet was voted Band Queen.
She attended Coe College, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was proud to attend classes in the Old Main Building, which was built by her Great-grandfather.
Janet was employed by Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company, where she was the Assistant Personnel Director. She later became co-owner of Feiden Insurance Agency, which she and her husband ran for 30 years.
She married the love of her life, Robert M. Feiden, September 2, 1956. They met in Sunday school 79 years ago and were married 61 blissful years. They had three daughters Kimberly, Linda, and Michelle. The joy of her life was watching her daughters and grandchildren excel in grades, sports, and careers.
Janet is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Kimberly (Jeffrey) Glandorf, Linda Feiden, Michelle (Randy) Gentile; and grandchildren, Rachel, Jennifer, Myles, Maria, and Lauren.
