Born August 4, 1947, to John and Yvonne Lewis, Jean spent his life in the Des Moines Area. He worked mainly as a laboratory technician, but music was his true passion- he wrote and sold several songs over the years and loved sharing stories of the famous bands and singers he crossed paths with along the way. He was happiest when he was making music, fishing, or building something with his hands. He deeply appreciated vintage and antique products, working tirelessly to restore them.
A talented lead guitarist and singer, Jean performed over the years in many bands, including West End, The Mods, Slick Shift and the Wet Look, and Rock Bottom Band. Jean took the stage with Rock Bottom Band at the Iowa State Fair in the mid '90s. Among the songs he wrote, "Patty Ann" - written for his wife- held a special place, as it stayed theirs alone, never sold or recorded. Jean also happened to be a standout baseball player through his childhood and high school. Those who knew Jean knew that he was a good man, he was just a little grumpy sometimes.
He is survived by his children, George (Melissa) Lewis and Julie Bartlett; and his half-sister, Jill Pittman. Jean is preceded in death by his parents, John and Yvonne Lewis; and his beloved grandson, Benjamin Lewis.
