Jean was born on September 24, 1935 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, to parents, Don and
Winifred (King) Hoover. Raised on a farm near Norwalk, Jean graduated from Spring Hill High
School and attended Simpson College to study education. Jean married Larry Warren in Des
Moines on June 18, 1960. She was blessed to be married to Larry for 50 years until his passing
on August 7, 2010.
Jean spent a number of years in a variety of office roles in the insurance and food industries, but her most cherished role in life was that of mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nothing would light her day and face like her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her younger years, she was fortunate to spend many hours caring for her grandchildren and later in life she could never get enough time hugging her great grandchildren.
Jean was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church. She was also an avid volunteer on the 4th floor of Methodist West Hospital, the floor on which she passed away. Jean spent many hours with her Pinnacle Pointe friends playing cards and chatting, as well as watching any sport she could find on TV (especially her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes).
Jean is survived by her son, Rod (Julie) Warren of Clive; grandchildren, Melinda (Jared) Austin of Bevington, Hallie (Hogan) Tilley of West Des Moines, Courtney (Peter) LaMair of Urbandale, and Ross Warren of Waukee; and great grandchildren, Hayden, Noah, Evelyn, Hazel, Tatum, and Reagan; brother, Jerry (Theresa) Hoover; sisters, Diane Hoover and Rosemary Hoover; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; parents; daughter, Lori Ann Warren; grandson, Nile Hayden Warren; and her brothers, Ross Hoover, Pat Hoover, and Joe Hoover.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Blank Children’s Hospital.
