

Visitation will be held at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel, 801 -19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265, on June 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. A Memorial Service will be held beginning at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Everybody Wins! Iowa, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children develop a love of reading and achieve success through literacy and mentoring programs.
Jeanne was born to Evelyn and Leonard Wood in Des Moines, Iowa on March 28th, 1951. She grew up in Valley Junction and graduated from Valley High School in 1969. Jeanne also graduated from A.I.B in Des Moines with a degree in court reporting. She was a court reporter for many years at Huney-Vaughn and continued proofreading even in her retirement years for fellow court reporters.
Jeanne and her husband, Norman Scholten, were blessed with 25 wonderful years together. They enjoyed boating, motorcycling, and traveling You could always find her on a barstool at the kitchen counter proof reading or reading a book with “Murder, She Wrote” on in the background. Jeanne, whose laughter was infectious, was an avid reader, and her vocabulary rivaled the Thesaurus. She was quick-witted and fast on her feet with a good come-back.
With a glass of Pinot Grigio in hand, she loved spending time with her many friends and family. Her favorite pastime was playing board games with her grandchildren. Jeanne was a generous person who always had time for a friend in need.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband Norm of Urbandale, IA; son Barry and his wife Danielle Morgan of Portland, OR; favorite daughter Meg Kayko and her fiancee Mike Norris of Columbus, OH; step-sons Scott and his wife Heather Scholten of Johnston, IA; Jonathan and his wife Rachel Scholten of Urbandale, IA; sister Julie Dailey of Portland, OR; grandchildren Gracie and Adam Kayko of Waukee, IA; Evelyn and Henry Morgan of Portland, OR; Addison and Parker Scholten of Johnston, IA; extended family and countless friends.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and big sister Janis.
