

Jeff Dowie, 56, ended his journey on earth on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street as a result of pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines with private family interment at a later date.
Jeff was born in Key West, Florida and lived most of his life in the West Des Moines area. He was a talented craftsman who owned Jeff Dowie Custom Homes. Jeff was active in Boy Scouts, enjoyed hunting, photography, traveling, home renovations, golfing, and Sunday’s at the winery. He was a master griller who enjoyed entertaining on the deck and loved making people laugh.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Linda Morris-Dowie; son, Jonathan Dowie of Des Moines; daughter, Shellby Dowie of Des Moines; two step-sons, Jake (Julie) Morris of Des Moines and Danny Morris of Urbandale; two grandsons, Jude and Brody Morris; mother and step-father, Kay (William) Kendall of Urbandale; father and step-mother, Fred (Sandra) Dowie of Van Meter, IA; brother, Fred (Julianne) Dowie, Jr. of Winterset; two sisters, Lisa Dowie of West Des Moines and Lori (Jeff) Reeser of Urbandale; four half-brothers and sisters, Sean (Tammy) Dowie of McIntosh, FL, Kelly (Dave) Donato of Prole, IA, Kimber (Geordy) Damhorst of Iowa City, IA, Kyle Dowie of Clive; step-sister, Kelly Zelinsky; step-brother, Tom (Ellen) Kendall; and step-sister, Sandi Rohde. Also surviving are numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, his golden retriever Mugsy and DAC. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, two cousins and a nephew.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Camp Mitigwa.
