

Jeffery Kernan, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on October 9, 1967, in Monmouth, Illinois, Jeff was the cherished son of James and Barbara Kernan.
Jeff's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. On May 23, 1992, he married the love of his life, Angela, in Urbandale. Together, they shared 34 wonderful years of marriage, raising two children, Kayla and Cole, and creating countless cherished memories filled with love and laughter. Jeff was immensely proud of his daughter Kayla, and his son Cole, who were the light of his life.
An alumnus of Rockridge High School in Edgington, Illinois, Class of 1985, Jeff spent 38 years working at Hy-Vee, where he formed lasting friendships with colleagues who became like family. His warm and welcoming personality made everyone feel valued, and his kindness left a lasting impact on those around him.
Jeff was a passionate sports enthusiast, spending many joyful hours on the golf course. He was an ardent supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, cheering for his teams with unwavering loyalty.
His passing leaves a significant void in the lives of his surviving family: his devoted wife Angela; his beloved children Kayla and Cole and Kayla’s fiancée Zach Dykstra; his parents James and Marti Kernan, and Barbara and Gary Powell; his siblings Jared (Kellie) Kernan, Benjamin Jaggers (Rene Zukin); his cousin Michele (Rick) Masters; and his many nieces and nephews, including Jake, Maggie, Collin, Bret, Kenny, Alicia, Marcus, Selah, Maycee, Noah, Sara, Crosby, Walker, Flynn, Jaelynn, and Clayton. Jeff is also survived by his loving in-laws, Claudia and Bob Phillips, Frank and Dawn Evenson, and his sister-in-laws Andrea (Nick) Shelton, Amy (Corey) Myers, Mason (Katie) McKinnie, and Mandi (Ryan) McKinnie.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, James A. Kernan and Wilma (Billie) Kernan, Florence Fullerton, and Don Lemon, his brother Jimmy Jaggers, and his aunt Patty Hamilton and uncle William Lemon, and grandparents Audrey and Paul Watson.
Family and friends will gather to honor Jeff's memory on August 17, 2026, at 4:00-6:00PM for visitation with funeral at 6:00 and luncheon afterwards at McLarens Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary, located at 801 19th St. West Des Moines, IA 50265. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for friends and family in the Quad Cities.
Jeff's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered support and love during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made directly to the family at 2812 Meadow Lane, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
