Joanne Reed, 89, passed away peacefully June 1, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa, with family by her side. Joanne was born in Murdo, South Dakota and graduated from Riggs High School in Pierre, South Dakota.

Joanne was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend whose compassion and kindness touched many lives. She had a special love for animals, particularly dogs, which were a constant part of her life. Joanne volunteered with animal rescue organizations throughout the years. She had a special place in her heart for dogs that were most in need, often showing extra affection and care for those who were disadvantaged or overlooked.

Joanne was preceded in death by her birth mother, Esther Benson; parents, Palmer and Pauline Fjelstad; husband Earl Reed; and daughter, Lisa Heuer. She is survived by her sons Donny Heuer and Darin (Joy) Heuer; brother Garry Fjelstad; grandson Nick (Daisy) Heuer; niece Kim Fjelstad; her beloved dog Baxter; plus, many family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Often family would say “Love You Today.” She would smile and reply, “Love You Tomorrow.” She will simply be loved forever.

Funeral services were held at Telemarken Lutheran Church in Wallace, South Dakota on Friday, June 5, 2026, with interment at Telemarken Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joanne's honor may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Central Iowa, www.arl-iowa.org. Joanne's gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering love for her family and animals will be remembered always.
