John E. Brewbaker, 82, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Karen Acres in Urbandale. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel with a funeral service at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
John was born September 20, 1935 in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from North High School and attended Drake University. John served in the U.S. Army with a tour in Germany from 1958 to 1960. He married Dee Ann Logan in 1958 and together they had two children, John Jr. and Shari Lynn. John worked for White Star Aladdin and was a member of the Teamsters Union for 42 years. In 1980, John met is second wife Katherine, with whom he spent the remainder of his years devoted to and caring for. John headed the Indian Princess and guides program through the YMCA and coached several youth sports teams for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching, fishing and annual trips to Okoboji.
John is survived by his wife, Katherine Brewbaker; daughter, Shari Lynn Schlatter; son, Gary (Stacey) Fuller all of West Des Moines and his nephew, James (Louise) Legg of Ankeny; he has seven grandchildren, Chelsi (Nick) Weeden, Kyle (Lindsay) Schlatter, Heather (Mike) O’Keefe, Tyler Fuller, Andrew Fuller, Alexis Legg and Avin Legg; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Orien Brewbaker; and son, John E. Brewbaker, Jr.
