John L. Croft, 86, formerly of Bouton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010 in Port Charlotte, Florida. A Graveside service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
John was born April 26, 1924 in Sheldahl, Iowa to Lester and Rose (Wagley) Croft. He had lived in Bouton, Iowa until moving to Port Charlotte 38 years ago. John was an owner of farm rental land and sold calculators. He was a WWII Army Air Force Veteran in the 379th Bomb Group flying over 30 missions as a turret gunner. John was a member of the Shriners, Kiwanis, Lions Club, Eastern Star and American Legion. He loved to square dance.
John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Croft of Port Charlotte, FL; son, John G. (Linda) Croft of Fremont, CA; daughter, Sharon (Tim) Dietz of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and two brothers, David (Audrey) Croft of Woodward and Phil (Dorothy) Croft of Boone.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Croft.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel.
