Born in 1951 to Elizabeth and John Gillotti Sr., John went to work for his father at a young age, who was also a successful central Iowa businessman, and picked up a talent for business and construction. A graduate of Valley High School, John went on to attend Iowa State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in business and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduating and with help from his father, John established Eco-Tech Contractors, a central Iowa road construction company with his brother and two cousins. A dedicated worker, John could often be found working late into the evening and weekends driving heavy machinery where he felt most at home. Throughout his life, John was involved in numerous real estate developments and businesses. With a keen eye for business, he owned several companies including American Abstract and Title, a Polk and Dallas county based title company, and Goodwin Tucker Group, an Iowa and Nebraska foodservice equipment and HVAC repair company along with several other ventures.
The father of four children, John dedicated his life to providing for his family and passing on his knowledge of business, and life. He loved nothing more than spending the day with his family, talking about business and history, having a laugh, or watching his favorite childhood TV shows and movies. An active man, John loved to golf, ski, and fish and spent much of his time driving from job to job chatting on the phone with anyone and everyone. With a loving heart, John gave generously to everyone he met and had a special ability to bring out the best in people.
John is survived by his children, Nick Gillotti of West Des Moines, Angela Cozad of Johnston, Blair Gillotti of Minneapolis, MN, and Lincoln Gillotti of Altoona; brother, Marlo Gillotti of West Des Moines; sister, Michelle Gillotti-Lally of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Micky Hodges of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren, Chase and Avery Cozad.
