Joyce A. Ferree,78, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with ALS. A visitation with the family will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel in West Des Moines.
Joyce was born July 20, 1940 in Aurora, Illinois to John and Esther (Roberts) Hiemenz. She graduated from Madonna High School in 1958. She met the love of her life, Lee, and they were united in marriage on November 27, 1958. Together they raised a son and two daughters.
Joyce was a loving mother and had the privilege of being a stay at home mom. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making her family dresses and clothing. Joyce was also known as a dedicated gardener. She also enjoyed golf and being a part of the bridge club.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Lee, of Urbandale; son, Martin Ferree of Batavia, IL; daughters, Laura (Forrest) Ridgway of West Des Moines and Michele (Pete) Maglione of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughter, Megan (Matt) McNeece of West Des Moines; grandsons, Bif (Kristy) Ridgway of Van Meter, IA, Parker and Noah Ridgway of West Des Moines; and great grandsons, Levi and Logan McNeece, and Forrest Ridgway IV. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Dennis Hiemenz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the ALS Association Iowa Chapter.
