Julie Denise May, 66, of Des Moines passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Julie grew up in Baldwin, Wisconsin and attended college in Florida for a time before relocating to San Diego, California. In 2001, Julie moved to Des Moines to be closer to family. Julie worked as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in the Des Moines school district elementary and middle schools for the next 20 years. She routinely worked with the most underprivileged student populations.
She greatly enjoyed gardening, and neighbors often spotted her toiling in the backyard. Julie was preceded in death by her mother Marilyn, and is survived by her father John, sister Jayna, brother John, and son Andrew.
