Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Dey, age 77, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021 surrounded by her family. Kathy was born June 11, 1944 in Des Moines to Henry and Edith Hofbauer and graduated from Roosevelt High School.
Kathy’s family was her world. It was while she was mowing her parents’ front yard in 1960 that she met the love of her life, Larry. Soon after they married and began their own family. They welcomed three children who she made a career out of loving and taking care of. Her love, uniqueness, and knowledge were spread everywhere and passed down from generation to generation. She spent her later years taking care of other family members, she was the glue that held the family together and took care of everyone around her.
She had many hobbies and interests; it could be said she studied and analyzed everything in the world around her with her inquisitive mind. She never knew a stranger and with her lively and curious nature she could talk to anyone about anything. She loved astrology and would often ask people when they were born and what time to better understand them with her astrological knowledge. She also enjoyed reading and one of her favorite topics was conspiracy theories. Nothing was too strange for her and many will remember her by her unique, ornery, and bold personality.
Kathy was selfless and always put others needs before her own. Her chief concern is that everyone around her was happy, not hungry or thirsty, and most importantly having fun! That stayed with her until her very last days.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 61 years Larry Dey; children, Carolyn (Larry) Martin, Bill (Richard Villa) Dey, Trish Sego; grandchildren Chris Martin, Jennifer (Eric) Johnson, Quentyn Sego, and Dawson Sego; great-grandchildren Ella and Lily Johnson. Also cherishing Kathy’s memory are siblings Judy Earp, Chuck (Ginny) Hofbauer, Cindy (Bill) Lloyd, Phillip Hofbauer, Joan (Frank) Cardamon, and Jane (Chuck) Waters; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Edith Hofbauer and brother Henry (Junior) Hofbauer Jr.
At Kathy’s request, there will be no service.
