Kathryn Ann Vuper

Kathryn Ann Vuper, 54, passed away on July 16, 2012. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265.

Kathy was born February 23, 1958 to Edward and Patricia Vuper in Ames, IA and grew up in West Des Moines, IA. She was a graduate of Dowling High School and the University of Iowa. She lived in Omaha, NE until 1995 when she re-located to Evanston, IL upon receiving an M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Kathy was a medical intern with Northwestern University Hospital where she specialized in Psychiatric Medicine, with an emphasis on Geriatric Psychiatry. After completing her internship, Kathy re-located again to McHenry County, IL and again to Lake Geneva, WI where she lived until recently when she accepted a position in Charleston, WV.

Throughout her life, Kathy was an avid lover of the water and water sports, and even took up scuba diving as a hobby. She was a strong supporter of the performing arts, breast cancer research, and promoting care for families with “special needs” children.

Kathy is survived by her three sons, Brian (fiancée Ashley), Patrick and Douglas Amen. She is also survived by her siblings Edward Jr. (Renee), Michael (Audrey), Sharon Larson (Phil), and Jeffrey.

Memorial contributions may be given to University of Nebraska Medical Center, Joffrey Ballet of Omaha or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
