

Kenneth “Kenny” Garner Jr. was born on Feb. 27, 1943, to Ken and Mary (McCabe) Garner in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and moved with his family to Des Moines in 1946. A 1961 graduate of Dowling High School Kenny was drafted into the Army in 1963 where he worked for the Stars and Stripes newspaper. After his discharge, he spent many years exploring the country and met his first wife, Wilda, while working in Florida. After moving back to Iowa, he made his career at the Massey Ferguson Distribution Center, which later became Agricredit Acceptance, LLC in Johnston. Kenny was very proud of his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman and a past member of the Izaak Walton League.
Left to remember Kenny’s wisdom and sense of humor are his daughters, Beth (T.J.), Jon Ann and Lucky; seven grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann (Carl) Gurera, Kathy (Terry) Popeck, Sue (Denny) Ritz, Peggy (Dave) Ballard, Cindy (Mark) Rosen and Ginny (Alan) Cowan; brothers, Tom (Jeanne) and Jim; and several close high school friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Mary; his wife, Wilda, and their daughter, Mary; and by his wife, Jude.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 - 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
