LaRee Russell

LaRee Lynne Russell, 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, May 3, 2026. Born in Jefferson, Iowa, she grew up in Yale, Iowa on the family farm. Throughout her childhood she enjoyed dance, 4-H, and band. She attended Iowa State University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She graduated from Pan American College in Edinburgh, Texas. LaRee married the love of her life, Bob, June 15, 1968 in Abilene, Texas. They were blessed with five children. They settled in West Des Moines, Iowa, where she maintained an in-home daycare for 35 years where she was known by her kids as “Ree-Ree”. She enjoyed attending all the activities and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Her passion was traveling, including Italy, Ireland, England, and the Czech Republic. Her favorite spot was Grand Cayman where the entire Russell family would gather for many vacations.

She is survived by her husband Bob of 57 years, children: Brenda (Andy) Lounsbury, Marsha (Brad) Johnson, Brian (Julie) Russell, Kari Russell, Sara (Daniel) Leivas, grandchildren: William (Allison) Lounsbury, Lauren Lounsbury and fiancé Fredric Hinkle, Lindsey, Carly, Kyle Johnson, Ashlyn and Noelle Russell, Emersyn Fox, great grandson Wyatt Lounsbury, brother Greg and sister LaRayne, and many nieces , nephews and extended family. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Merle and Mima Jean Chaloupka.

She will be remembered for her love, kindness and giving spirit. She will be in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Dr. Dan Buroker and his staff at Mission Cancer Center, along with UnityPoint Hospice. Donations can be directed to UnityPoint Taylor House.

LaRee will be honored with a visitation on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and a funeral service on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, at McLaren's Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA. Burial will follow the funeral service at Jordan Cemetery, 2950 Fuller Rd, West Des Moines, IA.
