

Larry J. Brubaker, 81, passed away with peace and grace Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2016 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, followed by a time of fellowship. A private family inurnment will be held at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Larry was born Saturday, November 16, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa to Jay and Pauline (Cabbage) Brubaker. After graduating from Valley High School, he became a decorated Navy veteran that served on the USS Philippine during the Korean War. After the military he earned his undergraduate degree from Drake and then his MBA from the University of Iowa. Larry had his own private counseling practice in Des Moines and later retired from the Richmond Center in Ames. He was passionate about staying sober and helping other alcoholics to achieve sobriety, as he was blessed to celebrate 30 years of continuous sobriety. Larry was also passionate about his own physical fitness but enjoyed his coffee and donuts. He was known for his sense of humor and his kindness, as he dedicated much of his life to serving others. Larry was a loving and devoted father who adored his two daughters.
Larry is survived by his fiancé, Tami Sherman; daughters, Lisa Brubaker-Krist and Jennifer Risolvato both of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Zach Holtman, A.J. (Gracie) Krist, Gabrielle Risolvato, Michael Krist and Tanner Krist; great grandchild, Maximus Krist. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Jerry; Carolyn Shelton; and son in-law, James Krist.
