Laura Beth Scott, surrounded by her family, took her last breath of her fifty years of life on Friday September 18, 2015 following a courageous struggle with cancer. In the midst of this struggle, Laura experienced a surprise 50th birthday party at her home with many family and friends in attendance. Laura was married to Paul Scott and they would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on September 30. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend and had a smile that could light up a room. Laura was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
Laura was born May 6, 1965. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Southeast Polk High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree (Psychology major) from the University of Iowa. She was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan. Laura worked for twenty-one years in medical records. Most recently she worked at the Urbandale HyVee in the salad bar/fresh cut fruit department and received great satisfaction from the relationships she developed with her co-workers. She loved to go grocery shopping at the Urbandale HyVee every Friday evening.
Laura enjoyed any opportunity to be with her family. Their dog Sadie and cat Scooter were her constant companions and she enjoyed taking Sadie for a walk. She enjoyed travels to Florida, walking the beach along the Gulf of Mexico, attending Hawkeye football games (especially when they won!), attending the Pearson Christmas party, visits to the Palmer farm near Mt Vernon for family gatherings and any other opportunity to gather with family, going to movies and eating out at restaurants with family and friends.
Laura is survived by her husband Paul Scott, mother Linda Johnson (step-father Craig Palmer), father David Pearson (step-mother Jean Pearson), brothers Paul Pearson (sister-in-law Amy Pearson) and Steve Pearson (sister-in-law Zinna Pearson); grandmother Carolyn Palmer; bother-in-law Rodney Scott (sister-in-law Shelley Scott) and sister-in law Cindy Scott; nephews Cody Pearson, Skyler Pearson, Cody Daniels and Ethan, Tanner and Mason George; nieces Adriana and Makenzie Pearson, Amber Pearson, Morgan Daniels and Brittany Strabley; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at McLaren’s Chapel, 801 – 19th St., West Des Moines, Iowa with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at McLarens Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, Iowa.
