Lewis was born July 26, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Noel and Florance (Willoughby) Wharff. He graduated from North High School in 1962 and then went on to Drake University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in marketing and was a member of Alpha Kappa PSI. He started his career as a new business representative at Des Moines Life and Casualty followed by a financial insurance examiner for the state of Iowa. He met the love of his life, Susan, and was united in marriage on April 22, 1971. Together they raised two daughters. In 1983, he moved his family to Arkansas and retired from the insurance department in 1997 as the Assistant Insurance Commissioner of Finance. Lewis then worked as a consultant at his own company L & S Consultants, but his favorite job of all was being grandpa.
His grandkids called him Papa daddy and 7272 (PAPA). Lewis spent most of his time with his beloved dog and best friend, Frankie. He was known for his goofy sense of humor and love of dancing whether in the back yard or the basement. His family asks that you pray for them during this time.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Robin Petersen and Katie (Tim) Stine; granddaughters, Heather (Nathan) Rouze, and Ashley Wharff. Great-grandkids, Hunter, Maylei, and not yet born, Baby Rouze. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marjorie White.
