Linda R. Van Devender

Linda Rae Van Devender, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026 in the chapel at Berean Church in Pleasant Hill with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

Linda was born March 14, 1939 in Des Moines to LaVerne and Inez Wilcox. She grew up on the family farm near Adel along with her brother and attended country school for several years. Linda graduated from Adel High School in 1957.

In November of 1958, she married John Van Devender. She had various jobs during her working life such as private secretary, teaching assistant, information operator for Bell Telephone and payroll clerk for a local brick and tile company.

Linda was a very talented singer and sang at many weddings, church choirs and other events. She was also an active member of Berean Church in Pleasant Hill.

In May of 2018, she married Ray Johnson in Arizona City, AZ. After selling her house they moved to Des Moines and remained there until moving to a care center in October of 2025.

Linda is survived by her husband of eight years, Ray; two sons, John (Laura) of Casa Grande, AZ and Mathew (Sharon) of Nixa, MO; and four grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Christopher and Nathan. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John and her parents.
