Loren A. Martin, 87, of Altoona passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with inurnment at Resthaven Cemetery. Loren was born on February 24, 1924 in Hocking, Iowa the son of Albert and Eva (Taylor) Martin and graduated from Chariton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been a postal clerk until his retirement in 1986. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Kenneth) Joyce of Des Moines and nephew, Jack Fansher of Chesterfield, MO. Loren was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Winifred Stevenson Martin on February 27, 2004; one sister, Leah Jackson; and two brothers, Jack and Reginald Fansher. Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or Iowa Health Hospice.
