Lorraine Bishop, 94, completed her life on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at her home. She was born on September 14, 1926, in a small town near Iowa City to Sidney and Rose Michum. Lorraine graduated from the University of Iowa where she majored in sociology with a minor in music. She worked as a social worker before becoming a homemaker and raising her family. She was predeceased by her parents Sidney and Rose Michum of Des Moines, and brother, Dennis Michum of Santa Rosa, CA. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ken; daughter, Shauna (Jim) Billingsley of Escondido, CA; and son, Mark (Barbara Argenta) of Altoona. Lorraine loved to cook and spent a lot of time perusing her many recipe books. She maintained a strong interest in music and took singing lessons while participating in many vocal groups in Des Moines, which included: Senior Singers, Mother Singers, the Des Moines Symphony Choir and others. Lorraine was also a member of Friends of the Library and made frequent visits. She was an avid reader of biographies, autobiographies, and any book about dogs she could find. Lorraine loved the Highland Park Christian Church of which she was a member since the mid - 1950’s and participated in the choir as long as she could.
A private service will be held at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Park Christian Church.
