Louisa M. Evoy (Lou), 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. A private family burial service is planned the following morning at Resthaven Cemetery.
Lou was born October 15, 1932 to Louisa and William Johnston in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in Simcoe and worked at the Bank of Montreal until she met Robert Evoy while in a bowling league in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Lou and Bob married in November of 1959. Together, they moved with their children to Denver, Colorado and then in 1967 settled in West Des Moines. Lou spent most of her years as a homemaker, though she did work at Farm Bureau along with some great friends. She loved volunteering at her children’s schools, enjoyed golf, bowling, and was a talented crocheter. Lou and Bob had fun in retirement as snowbirds at the beach house in Destin, Florida.
Most of all, Lou loved her family and spending time with them. She planned wonderful birthday dinners, Thanksgiving dinners, Sunday lunches, Saturday afternoon visits, Christmas meals for family to share around the dining room table. Lou especially loved spending time with her four grandchildren and attending all of their activities. She was thrilled to become a great grandmother just 9 months ago.
Lou is survived by her children; son, Mark (Angie) of Adel; daughter, Debbie Evoy Wiley (Brent) of Clive; grandchildren, Derrick Wiley (Claire), Trevor Wiley, Spencer Evoy, and Sally Evoy; great grandson, Simon Wiley; and many nieces and nephews all in Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Evoy; parents Louisa and William Johnston; and siblings William, Olive, and George.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Methodist West Hospital and Kavanagh House Hospice.
