Luciano (Lou) Fiori joined his wife in heaven on their anniversary, Wednesday, February 14, 2018. He passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital in Des Moines with his family beside him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Basilica of St. John with a private family interment at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Lou was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the Army National Guard from 1948 to 1952. He lived in Des Moines since 1964. Lou retired after many years in the diesel power industry. He worked most of his career at Hicklin Power and then later at Interstate Power. Lou was an active member of the Basilica of St. John. He lived his final years at the Bishop Drumm Retirement Community in Johnston.
Lou is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Fiori. He is survived by his six children, Carol (Denny) Carder, Laura (Dave) Wildman, Cindy (Don) Jones, Louis (Kyle) Fiori, Roger (Karla) Fiori and Rob (Shari) Fiori; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou Miranda.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a 4 p.m. prayer service. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
