Malinda was born on January 29, 1931, in Bremer County, Iowa, to August and Maria (Thies) Brandt. She was united in marriage to Erwin John Aswegan on September 26, 1953. Together they raised their family in Ankeny. She was an avid cook and enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, flower gardening and doing puzzles. Malinda liked working with her hands and being in nature. She was a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children Michael (Beth) of Las Cruces, NM, Mary (Craig) Catron of Ankeny, James (Robbie) of Alleman, and Jackie (Tom) Horton of Woodbine, GA; grandchildren, Kelly, Elise, Rebekah, Mandy, Sarah, and Holly; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; her parents, and a sister.
Funeral services will be 11 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny. Visitation will begin at 10 am until service on Thursday. Inurnment will be at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
