

Mary (Sturniolo) Horvath, 92, died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 following complications from a fall. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Mary was born January 19, 1919 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to Joseph and Angela (Calderone) Sturniolo, Sicilian immigrants. She had lived in West Des Moines for 30 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where for many years she did volunteer work.
Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul J. Horvath; son, Paul E. Horvath; grandson, Paul Alexander Horvath and daughter-in-law, Suzi Rothchild. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Anthony, Samuel and Phillip Sturniolo and sister, Nancy Salembene.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street.
Mary was a kind and generous person and was always willing to help others. She will be deeply missed by her many friends at Sacred Heart and Fairmeadows Village and especially by her family who loved her so very much.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Methodist West Hospital and Hospice Kavanagh House for their excellent and compassionate care of Mary.
