Mary Rose Salazar, 78, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in West Des Moines on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25th, 2024 at 10:00 am at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Mary will be laid to rest at Jordan Cemetery, 3500 Fuller Road, West Des Moines, IA 50265, next to her husband James Salazar following the service.
Mary was born on March 30th,1945 in Ohio, but she settled and put down roots in West Des Moines, Iowa. Mary worked at Mercy Hospital for 25 years as the Secretary of 8 South. Everyone who crossed paths with Mary considered her a friend, she was loved by many. Mary loved to read, but she especially loved playing Slingo on her computer and Bingo at the Casino. She loved watching her Soap Operas, The Golden Girls, and Unsolved Mysteries. She also enjoyed going to estate sales. Out of all her favorite things, Mary’s absolute favorite was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Not only was she the best at being a loving Mother but she was also the best at being Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Debra (Keith) Reece and Penny Wessel; son, Gary Wessel; sister, Melody Dean; brother, William Dean; six grandkids, Jennifer, Anthony, Jessica, Matthew, Angela, and Nicholas; 16 great-grandchildren; and a nephew and many nieces. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Mabeline Taylor; husband, James Salazar; and her great granddaughter, Lillian Wessel.
