Mary Lou (Hernandez) Salazar, 84, passed away April 28, 2014 at home. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.
Mary was born June 7, 1929 to Henry and Nellie Hernandez in West Des Moines. She graduated from Valley High School in 1948 and married Lalo on November 27, 1948. Mary was a member of St. Ambrose and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, and sharing her cooking and faith with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary (Mark) Guenther, Josephine (Robert) Sereg, Joseph (Barb), Lucy (Russel) Corrigan, Jesse (Penny), and Michael (Kim); 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Judy Hutton and Nellie Call; and grandson, Joseph Sereg.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
