Mike J. Remus

Mike Remus, 69, of Grimes, Iowa, passed away on May 22, 2023.

Mike was born on December 7, 1953, to Bill and Shirley Remus in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mike graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines in 1971. He then attended and graduated from Creighton University in 1976.

Mike acquired many titles during his life, including son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, librarian, friend, and hero.

Mike met his wife, Julie Remus, when they worked for Equitable Life Assurance in 1993. They fell in love, and they married on October 15, 1994.

He was a loving father to Julie’s daughters, Natalie and Val. Mike and Julie had their daughter, Liz, in 1997.

Mike retired in 2021 and spent his time enjoying his favorite hobbies; photography, driving his Corvette, reading, enjoying nature, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mike enjoyed working part-time at the Grimes Public Library to share his passion for reading while also spending many outdoor hours honing his eye behind his cameras, with the Des Moines Camera Club as his home base.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Shirley Remus, his sister Theresa Schultz, and brother-in-law Tom Schultz.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Remus, daughters Natalie Morgan (Andy), Val Harryman (Brian), and Liz Remus, grandchildren Audrina, Owen, and Evie Harryman, his dog Lola Remus, siblings Linda Landwehr (David) and Jim Remus (Wendy) and many nieces and nephews.

Mike loved life and lived it to the fullest. He had a large loving family with many close friends. We will miss him deeply.

A Visitation will be held on May 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on May 27, 2023 at 12:00 pm at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa.
