Milton E. Maurer, 97, died of natural causes on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Trinity Center in Des Moines. Per his request, he was cremated. A visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale on January 2, 2019, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow. Graveside service with Navy honors will be at 12:30 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Milton was born in Alexandria, MO, on June 1, 1921 to Walter and Lola (Spurgeon) Maurer. He joined the Navy and served during WWII in the South Pacific on a PT boat. On April 7, 1946, he married Isabel McCabe (RN) in New London, IA. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2001. Milton lived in the Des Moines Metro area for the past 58 years. In 1985 he retired from A.Y. McDonald Plumbing and Heating after working for 29 years as a salesman.
Milton is survived by three sons, Steve (Jessie) of West Des Moines, Greg (Diane) of West Palm Beach, FL, and Randy (Mary) of Urbandale; one daughter, Ann (Mike) Routh of Burlington, IA; sisters Alice and Lola Mae Maurer of Burlington; brother, Walter of Pinehurst, NC; eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
