Nicholas J. Cardamon, 72, passed away on September 19, 2025. Details regarding services are pending and will be shared at a later date.
Nicholas was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 14, 1953, the second child of Nick and Kathleen Cardamon. He attended Dowling High School, graduating in 1972 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State.
Nick's first job during high school was on Saturday nights from 8pm-12 midnight inserting the ads into the Sunday morning newspaper for the Register & Tribune. This job was not one of his favorites if you knew Nick. After college he worked for the Polk County Assessor's Office before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota as an underwriter in the Group Health & Life Insurance Industry until his retirement in 2020. Nick then moved back to Des Moines to be close to his family and friends.
Many of his friends and coworkers have reached out to ask to offer help and contribute to his memory. We feel that this is an honor to him. Some of the memories that were written are: Nick built a remarkable circle of close friends and was the ultimate host, always ready to throw a dinner party to share wine, great food, and his quick wit and his one-liners never failed to keep everyone laughing. Nick also had a heart of gold, offering quiet support to friends during difficult times. He was a true collector of beautiful things and found great joy in his collections of German figurines, Swarovski crystals, China (especially dessert plates), and Radko Christmas ornaments. His home beautifully showcased these prized possessions and told the story of his life. Nick will be remembered as a dear friend and a servant of his Catholic faith. His memory will be treasured by many.
He is survived by his sisters, Janet, Kathryn and Mary; brother, Mike; and his nieces and nephews.
Nick was loved and a wonderful brother. Rest Easy.
