Norma was born in Estherville, Iowa, as the middle child of Florene Lilly (Lantz) and Albert Schroder. She left Iowa for Hawaii, then San Francisco, before spending over forty years in Denver. Norma returned to West Des Moines in 2017.
Her love of shopping was probably her biggest claim to fame, but entertaining ran a close second, followed by her passion for good food and travel — all shared with a wonderful circle of dear friends. Norma had a special enthusiasm for celebrating holidays, particularly July, fall festivities, and Thanksgiving. Decorating her home for these occasions was a labor of love, and she never missed a celebration, even if it meant having Christmas in January.
Norma worked for Frontier Airlines for nearly two decades before leveraging her knowledge and love of travel to open her own company, helping large corporations save money on employee travel during the last 20 years of her career.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Allan and Steven Schroder. Norma is survived by her sister-in-law, Sandy (Allan's wife), along with her nieces Janis and Margie, and her nephew Mark, as well as their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary, 801 19th St., West Des Moines, IA 50265, with a short reception immediately following.
Norma will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
