Norman Robert Abbott, 84, passed away quietly June 21, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Jordan Cemetery in West Des Moines at a later date.
Norm was born January 26, 1934 to Donald and Aurilla (Comer) Abbott in Mallard, IA and graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He married Marly Poe, the love of his life, on March 27, 1955 and together raised their three children. Norm worked as a serviceman at Iowa Power/MidAmerican Energy and retired in September of 1995 after 42 years of service. He was also a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.
Norm is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marly; three children, Linda (Craig) Carney of Iowa City, Eric (D’Ann) Abbott of Colorado; and Karen (Scott) Sandblom of Colorado; five grandchildren, Kelly Carney (Aaron Rzepka), Megan Carney, Madisen and Maxwell Abbott, and Shayne Sandblom; sisters, Donna Cahalan and Lennice Kuskulis. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Abbott Jr.; and sister, Anita Good.
